CJV_AJA2 Entrance Test A2
A pass in CJV_AJA2 Entry test. The SV4BP_1AB1 course represents a B1-level course in intermediate English. Students can read short texts and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. They understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered at school, work, and leisure.

Course objectives
Upon consolidation of the secondary school language skills, students will enlarge their social English vocabulary and practise selected academic skills (discussion, oral presentation, supporting an argument) in English.
Syllabus

  • Weeks 1-4 'Education in the Czech Republic and abroad'
  • Weeks 5-7 'Growing up. Teenagers. Parents and children.
  • Week 8 Mid-term TEST
  • Weeks 9-11 'Interpersonal relations. Friendship. Love. Partnership. Marriage'
  • Weeks 12-13 'Leisure and Pleasure. Free-time activity'
  • Weeks 1-4 'Education in the CR and abroad'. Further education. Similarities and differences. Study skills – discussion based on experience, expressing opinion, making a statement. Academic skills – key words, summarizing, basic reading techniques, mini-presentation Assignments – Home Reading Worksheet 1 (standardized layout: key words, summary, opinion, questions); Grammar - revision of present simple + present continuous, past simple + continuous tenses, prepositions of time and place Weeks 5-7 'Growing up. Teenagers. Parents and children. Focus on adolescence. Texts on stages of life and personality development Study skills – opinion exchange, personal experience, reflection based on experience, role-play. Academic skills – critical thinking, opinion exchange Grammar – present perfect simple + continuous tenses, future tense Assignments – topic based vocabulary Week 8 Mid-term TEST (W1-W7 vocabulary and grammar revision Weeks 9-11 'Interpersonal relations. Friendship. Love. Partnership. Marriage Study skills – presenting, giving and supporting arguments, justifying a point; Academic skills – presenting, expressing opinion, discussion. Grammar – adjectives – personal qualities, comparatives, superlatives, Assignments – home reading worksheet 2, topic based vocabulary Weeks 12-14 Leisure and pleasure. Free-time activities. Study and Academic skills – discussion, opinion exchange, supporting arguments; Grammar – modals Assignment – revision for the credit test Credit Test The student who has not completed continuous assessment during the particular semester cannot be credited! (Bez splnění průběžných semestrálních úkolů, nemůže student skládat zápočtový test!)

Seminars, practical language classes, discussions, role plays, presentations
Assessment methods
1) Attendance (only 2 classes can be missed) 2) Continuous assessment during the semester (2 written assignments and oral presentations, 20 marks) 3) Mid-term test - vocabulary, grammar (30 marks) 3) Credit test on PC (part A - grammar, part B - vocabulary, part C - listening, part D - writing, 50 marks). Pass mark = 65 marks
