Course objectives
The course Media Culture is designed to contribute to the so-called media literacy of teachers at primary schools. Its aim is to arouse teachers interest in media studies. It tries to answer the basic question why to engage in media studies and how these studies can be beneficial. The subject deals with the way media work and explains how a media communication is created and how the media influence recipients life.

Teaching methods
The course takes form of a lecture in which examples of particular media will be shown (e.g. parts of films, TV commercials, TV news, computer games etc.)
Assessment methods
Type of completion: credit Credit requirements: seminar paper dealing with one of the asssigned topics or topics of students´own choice which has to meet adequate criteria and must be handed in by the deadline. A short research report of about 5 pages dealing with a topical question, e.g. Which programmes for children broadcast at weekends by the state run television can be counted among the best and why? Which programmes broadcast by the Czech radio can be recommended to the pupils? What does the particular journal you read look like regarding the genres it presents? Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
