Course objectives
It is pressupossed the student after finishing this course:
(a) understands the difficult examples of the subject-predicate concurrence;
(b) understands the norms of the Czech punctuation;
(c) is able to write complicated compound or combined sentence without punctuation mistakes;
(d) is able to find some language phenomena in the language reference books in the case of problems.
Syllabus
  • 1. Predicate´–subject´s concurrence (especially in the case of neutral gender of subject). Subject standing immediately behind the predicative verb in the sentence and their concurrence.
  • 2. Concurrence of predicate and multiple subject, for example in the sentences: Firmy a podnikatelé získali nové možnosti. // Firmy s podnikateli získaly nové možnosti.
  • 3. Punctuation in the clause. Multiple sentential constituents. Loose and close attribute. Apposition.
  • 4. Punctuation in the compound and combined sentence. Paratactic connection of clauses and punctuation. Punctuation in the complicated compound and combined sentence and in the compound and combined sentence with embedded clause.

Teaching methods
Introduction of the tutorial is focused to the short explanation of the rules of the subject´s–predicate´s concurrence and of the punctuation´s norms. The explanation stall be connected with the graphical presentation. The main part of the tutorial deals with the practice of writing sentences with the predicative verbs in the past tense (preteritum) and with the praktice of correct writing combined and compound sentences, especially sentences with complicated structure and with difficult rules of punctuation.
Self-study: the participants of the course receive volume of texts to praktice the rules of syntactic orthography.
Assessment methods
Individual testing. The achieved abilities shall be checked by tests that enables to verify the level of the them. The participant can consider his level for satisfactory when he reach success rate of 85 % in the test.
