Course objectives
The goal of the subject is to provide students with basic facts on the development of children, about the development of rational-cognitive functions of a man; about the development of imaginative and emotional functions.
Students should get acquainted with the social development of a man, basic developmental tasks, development tendencies, bio-psychological rules.
Based on these facts, the students will be able to understand peculiarities in the human behaviour depending on the age differences.
Syllabus
  • 1. Uniqueness of a man
  • 2. Position of developmental psychology in the system of psychological subjects, methods of developmental psychology
  • 3. Development phenomena (definition of a development, rules of the development)
  • 4. Phases of the development of a man
  • 5. Determinants of the development of a man (heritability, ageing, learning)
  • 6. The life before the birth (abilities of the foetus, reactions of the not yet born child to negative emotions of mother, life style influence on the foetus, psychological situation of a mother and not yet born child, the role of a father, birth)
  • 7. Biological rules of the mental development (genotype, phenotype)
  • 8. Development in the first year of life (newborn, toddler)
  • 9. Characteristics of a toddler (somatic development, speech development, psychical world of a toddler, cognitive efficiency, play and its influence, children drawing)
  • 10. Pre-school age (somatic development, development of cognitive functions, psychological world of the pre-school children, emotional and social development).
  • 11. Younger school children (topic of “ready for school”, speech development, development of cognitive functions, differences of cognitive efficiency, development of gentle movements and drawings, level of aspiration, efficiency motivation, emotional development, forms of communication)
  • 12. Adolescence (teenagers, adolescence, acceleration troubles, somatic development and self reflection, separation from the primary family, heterosexual relationships, groups and their importance)
  • 13. Adults (younger adults, middle adults, older adults)
  • 14. Ageing and ageism (mechanism of ageing, life integrity)
