Course objectives
This course will primarily be based upon Units 6-7 in New English File Advanced. Through practice, students will become more comfortable and more proficient using new complex structures. They will also develop a more sophisticated sense of the subtleties of English, (collocations, connotations, register, etc). They will further develop their reading skills (extra material provided) and work on their listening skills. At the end of the course students will understand and be able to discuss topics included in the course, make arguments for and against, discuss and evaluate advantages and disadvantages of particular issues; present, explain and justify their views.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course students will be able to conduct lessons entirely in English, they will be able to analyze and assess the effectiveness of various activities, and will also have experience in creating their own. Their language skills will have further developed toward C1 level.
Syllabus
  • Units 6-7 New English File Focus on culture: real-life objects, cultural and social issues The topics will include: 1. Migration. Free movement. Reasons for migration 2. Cultural adaptation and assimilation from the historical perspective and today 3. Argumentative essay 4. National cuisine, local ingredients, balanced diet 5. Healthy lifestyle. Exercise. Sport 6. Professional sport under the pressure of fans and money 7. Humor in English speaking countries and across the globe 8. Political satire (BBC production) 9. Portfolios - students' monitoring of progress in English language learning

Teaching methods
The classes will involve class discussions, pair-work, group-work and learning centres. The students are encouraged to make the most of their classtime and work regularly toward their proficiency. Also, students are expected to complete all required homework.
Assessment methods
Continuous assessment: active participation in class and on the mood-link-a all required homework participation in 3 discussion fora 1 written assignment submission of a web-based portfolio credit test passmark 70%
