- Course objectives
- The course will introduce the communication strategies of Russian and the Russian speech etiquette. The main objective is to improve the presentation skills and discussion skills in Russian language. The course tries to prepare students for the drafting of presentations, including the use of visual aids, for presentations in class for elementary and secondary school pupils. Attention is also paid to encourage students to evaluate their own performance and to engage in self-monitoring and peer-monitoring as means of improving speaking performance.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to use the information they receive to prepare presentations, to make a presentation and also to critically evaluate language performance, body language and visual aids during the presentation.
- Syllabus
- 1. Spoken and written Russian.
- 2. Choice of topic. Collecting information from different sources.
- 3. Presentation skills. Structuring the presentation.
- 4. Speaking for small and large audiences. Style adjustment.
- 5. Voice quality and body language.
- 6. Monitoring talk. Russian speech etiquette.
- 7. Visual aids: organizing the board, handout, Power-point presentation.
- 7. How to make your presentation interesting: telling jokes and funny events.
- 8. Discussion skills: topic control, argumentation and persuasion.
- 9. Asking and answering to questions after the presentation.
- 10. Discussion of speaking skills development and speaking activities observed during teaching practice.
- 11. Russian speech label and inclusion of elements of Russian speech etiquette in Russian language teaching at secondary schools.
