Course objectives
The main objecitves of the course is orientation in social work. Students will understand the basic content and terminology of social work, will be able to follow the current trends in selected areas of social work focused on people with disabilities and social disadvantage and will be oriented in the social services and social security system so that they can use their knowledge in their Practice. Students will also be able to describe the counseling process and its methods. The objective of the course is to acquaint students with the basic concepts, principles and tools of social work and selected types of social services focusing on their target group.

  • 1. Social work - basic characteristics of the field, objectives, methods and forms of social work. 2.Social Services Act - Definition of Selected Services, Quality Standards of Social Services, Qualification requirements. 3. Personality of a social worker (professional and personal profile, risk, supervision). 4. Transformation of social services away from residential to outpatient and field services. 5. Basic methods of working in social work with people with disabilities or social disadvantage. 6. Counseling process (definition, phase of counseling 7. Social worker in social services, health and science 8. Ethics in social work.

Teaching methods
Participation in lectures with experts. Seminar essay focused on the selected target group (description of the target group and suggestion of appropriate support in social work).
