- Course objectives
- The school garden is an integral part of every kindergarten. The subject represents the school garden not only as a space for
but it presents this educational environment as a unique area for acquiring knowledge and skills of plant growing, diverse biotopes, phenological changes of nature during the year, etc.
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to teach students to prepare, implement and reflect various educational activities in the school garden in accordance with phenological changes of nature and local traditions. Introduce students to different types of school gardens, especially natural school gardens, and familiarize them with the basics of plant care in the garden. - Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the student will be able to:
characterize the school garden as a complex educational environment and propose its use for teaching in the course year;
Perform meteorological observations of weather and phenological observations of model plants during spring and summer months;
To grow selected plants with children in the garden and in the classroom;
care for indoor plants in kindergarten with respect to possible safety risks;
to distinguish and properly use professional and user terms in the field of botany and zoology;
compare the health aspects and principles of growing healthy foods (bio) over traditional agricultural and horticultural products production;
Apply safety and hygiene rules for tasting, manipulation with nature etc .;
to appreciate the importance of practical activities in the school garden for the development of work habits - Syllabus
- These are practical exercises using activating teaching methods that are supported by original work lectures and e-learning study texts. 1. Meteorological and phenological observations. 2. Vegetables - cognition, sorting, care during the year. 3. Elements of natural gardens - combined culture (polyculture) and permaculture. 4. First spring herbs - cognition, safety aspects. 5. Traditional holidays of the spring months - customs and traditions in the Czech environment, regional differences. 6. Fruit trees - cognition, sorting, care in the course of the year. 7. Room plants - cognition, sorting, care in the course of the year, safety risks. 8. Spring work in the garden - planting of the flower bed, sowing, planting on the bed (contact tuition with pupils of primary school). 9. Vegetable bed - care in the course of the year, harvest, safety and hygienic aspects of consumption of fruit from the school garden. 10. Field crops - cognition, sorting, care in the course of the year. 11. The garden as an educational environment I - a biotope school garden. 12.
