- Course objectives
- Students will develop all four skills, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to be at an upper-intermediate level (CEFR B2-C1), they will work on extending the range and accuracy of the language as well as the register.
They will learn to analyze the language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they have changed their roles - from being the users of the language into being the source of information about the language and language model providers. - Learning outcomes
- The students will be able to confidently use the English language in a wide range of communicative situations at the level B2-C1 (CEFR) using advanced vocabulary.
Students will be able to effectively distinguish UK and US pronunciation and successfully use one of those in verbal communication.
The students will be able to fluently and accurately express themselves. They will also be able to effectively monitor their performance for fluency and accuracy.
The students will be able to confidently communicate in the English language using different registers (formal and informal)in verbal and written form.
The students will be able to realistically evaluate their performance and continuously work on personal improvement.
The students will be able to independently work with printed and online materials to keep improving their skills.
The students will have improved their presentation skills and will be able to give a solid non-academic presentation in front of a larger audience.

- Teaching methods
- This class, as in the previous semester, uses a variety of teaching methods such as pair and group work, class and online forum discussions (in Moodle), short class presentations, role-plays, and acted-out dialogues, and learning centers. The Moodlinka site provides students with more self-study materials.
- Assessment methods
- Students will attend a total of 3 hours every week.
The general pass mark for this course is 70%.
Passing the course will be dependent on a continuous assessment of the work during the semester and the results on the final test and speaking test.
The tasks of the continuous assessment will make up 30% of the course, and will be specified by the teacher.
Students are also expected to study the book English Grammar In Use in their own time.
The final test will consist of evaluation of the students grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading (FCE level), writing and listening sections. The final test will include various tasks from FCE tests. A test of speaking will also be administered with a pass mark 70 points.
The general pass mark for this course is 70% which includes both the continuous assessment and the final test. - Language of instruction
