Course objectives
The course is aimed at deepening algebraic knowledge of concepts introduced in subjects Discrete mathematics, algebra 1, algebra 2. The emphasis is put on lattice theory and Boolean algebras.
Learning outcomes
After the course the students will know more about the following topics: 1. Logics, sets, relations: review. 2. Algebraic operations, polynoms: review. 3. Linear algebra: review. 4. Peano set and its properties. 5. Numerical systems Z, Q, R, C. 6. Boole algebra.
Syllabus
  • The course is built on the review of questions for the state exam, part algebra:
  • 1. logics, sets, binary relations.
  • 2. Algebraic structures with one or two binary operations. Polynomials.
  • 3. Vector spaces, linear mapping, matrices, determinants, systems of linear equations.
  • 4. Peano set and its axioms.
  • 5. Construction of numerical systems Z, Q, R, C.
  • 6. Boole algebra.

Teaching methods
Seminar with active participation of the students.
Assessment methods
The study will be finished with a written test, students are required to complete 70 per cent or more of the tasks. The test will take place in the 7th, 8th, 9th week of the long semestr (in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd week of the exam period of the short semestr). At the end of the 9th week (at the end of the third week of the exam period) all students will be classified for the
