Course objectives
The aim of the course entitled Education of Individuals with Physical Disabilities and Chronic Disease is to acquaint students with basic concepts of the field physically disabilities and chronic disease such as subject, etiology, classification, prevention and basic characteristics. Furthermore, the system of special care facilities for individuals with physical disabilities and educational support in schools will be presented.
Learning outcomes
After successful completion, the student will be oriented in basic terminology conected with physical impairments and chronic diseases. Student will understand the basic principles of support and education in individuals with physical impairment and chronic diseases. Students will have basic knowledge on counselling support and aids used in individuals with physical impairment and chronic diseases.
Syllabus
  • Course syllabus: 1. The development of the society approach towards individuals with physical impairment and chronic illness 2. The current situation in education of individuals with physical disability and chronic illness. 3. Education of individuals with physical impairment/ chronic ilness in mainstream schools - teaching methods, counselling, cooperation. 4.Counselling system in the Czech Republic. 5. Organisation of hospital schools (content and organisation of education, studying plans, curriculum). 6. Characteristic of chronical illness. 7. Support provided by teacher, cooperation with family. 8. Comprehensive therapy.
