- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of key principles, challenges, and current trends in the education of pupils with a different mother tongue (OMJ), with particular emphasis on their practical application in teaching. The course introduces the legal framework for the education of children and pupils with OMJ, including the current wording of legislation concerning foreigners in schools. The course content includes an introduction to suitable teaching methods and formats, appropriate teaching materials, and alternative approaches for working with both homogeneous and heterogeneous groups. Emphasis is placed on the transferability of acquired knowledge to everyday teaching practice, both in face-to-face and online settings. Attention is also given to the basics of effective communication with OMJ pupils and their legal guardians (who are often foreigners as well), as well as to the development of intercultural sensitivity, which is a key prerequisite for successful engagement in culturally and linguistically diverse educational environments.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to characterize phenomena typical of pupils with a different mother tongue (OMJ), apply the latest teaching methods, use their knowledge in their own lessons, and support the integration of OMJ pupils into both school and extracurricular environments.
