Prerequisites
The course is suitable for undergraduate, masters and doctoral students across disciplines. No previous business experience is required. Curiosity and an interest in moving towards independent entrepreneurship is sufficient.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop students' skills with regard to their professional development towards independent entrepreneurship or freelancing.

The course covers ten sub-topics that freelancers deal with: the concept of freelancing, personal productivity, professional IT, teamwork, pricing, negotiation, financial self-management, online communication, personal marketing and professional growth.

Each topic will be presented in a separate lecture session by a successful freelance professional.

The course focuses on:

— freelancing;
— meeting successful freelancers;
— transferring experience and know-how;
— discussing topics related to freelancing;
— sharing resources and recommendations;
— individual work.

The course is not geared towards:

— entrepreneurship in general (e.g. starting a company);
— actively developing business ideas;
— legislative and similar business basics (e.g. filing tax information);
— advice;
— working in teams.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:

— define the key skills that freelancers need to develop to be successful;
— consult relevant resources on how to develop these skills;
— identify followable practitioners and experts in business-related fields.

Teaching methods
The course consists of 100-minute lecture blocks that take place once a week. There will be 11 lecture blocks in total.

The first lecture block includes an introduction to the course, the conditions for its successful completion and a panel discussion with personalities from previous years.

The next lecture blocks introduce the above topics in turn. They include a lecture from a selected successful independent professional and a discussion with the learners.

Topics may be supplemented with e-learning material in the form of recommended reading and other resources.
Assessment methods
The final evaluation consists of:

— attendance (learners attend at least 9 out of 11 lecture blocks);
— active participation (learners actively engage in discussions with the speakers);
— questionnaires (learners will complete an introductory and a final questionnaire exploring their relationship to entrepreneurship and self-assessment in a given timeframe);
— ongoing feedback (learners will submit feedback on at least 5 lecture blocks excluding the introductory lecture block via a designated form and by a specified deadline);
— short assignments (learners will submit 2 assignments focusing on self-identification of strengths and formulation of the basics of a business plan according to the specified assignment and by the deadline).
