Course objectives
The course focuses on the activity of the Luxembourgers in Moravia. Most attention is paid to Jan Henry and his sons Jošt and Prokop, who as Margrave of Moravia significantly influenced the development of the country. Of course, other personalities of the Luxemburg family who have influenced the history of Moravia (from John of Luxembourg to Sigismund of Luxembourg) will not be neglected. In parallel, the social and political conditions in Moravia (with greater emphasis on the development of the Moravian nobility) are also examined. The interpretation is led to the beginnings of the Hussite Revolution, or to the accession of Albrecht Habsburg in 1423.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
place the history of Moravia in the context of Central European history; describe the significance and role of the Luxembourg family in the history of Moravia; describe the development, significance and role of the Moravian nobility in the period under study; characterise the social, political and economic conditions in Moravia at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries; orientate oneself in the source base of the period under study.
