- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to draw the students' attention to some problems of translating non-fiction texts from English to Czech, especially problems related to the different grammatical structures of the languages and the different cultural backgrounds. The focus of the course is the translation of academic texts and essays. Each week students will be asked to translate a passage of text at home and their different translations will be compared and analyzed in the seminar. Attempts will be made to draw conclusions and to establish their relation to contemporary translation theory.
