Course objectives
Course description: A short history of the Italian cinema after the World War II: Neorealism (Rossellini, De Sica, Zavattini), the authors who came out of this movement (Visconti, Antonioni, Fellini, Pasolini), the political film (Rosi), the "second generation" (Olmi, Tavianiové), the directors influenced by the radicalism of the 60s (Bertolucci, Bellocchio). Literature: Olivová, Drahomíra: Film velkých nadějí (Praha 1963); Oliva, Ljubomír: Filmová Itálie (Praha 1987); Oliva, Ljubomír: Režiséři (Itálie) (Praha 1984). Assessment: a list of 24 films to be discussed in class
