- In this course we will study the main tendencies of acting in Czech film. We will start at the very beginnings of Czech film by considering the relationship between amateur theatre and film acting; then proceed to the creation of star system in 1930s, to the style of acting in the National Theatre, the possibilities of non-acting explored by the New Wave, film and television stars of the "normalisation" years towards the auteurist acting in the 1990s. We will study the film story as a vehicle for film star and film star as the vehicle for film story.
