- Course objectives
- The course is based on an annotated reading of Caesar's Commentarii de bello Gallico. During the first semester of this course, students read the 1st book of the Caesar's work. The course is reccomended to students in the first study-year and it prepares student for the advance (move-on) exam in the end of the first study-year.
- Syllabus
- Reading of Caesar's Commentarii de bello Gallico: book 1.
- Practice of adequate translation of the Latin original text. (Stress on the differences between Latin syntactic constructions and the Czech modern ekvivalents.)
- Comparation of the Latin original text and existing Czech translations.
- Gramatical analysis.
- Interpretation of the cultural-historical background.
