Course objectives
Philosophical and methodological basics The Department of Philosophy organizes four doctoral seminars dealing with philosophical and methodological education: 1. Czech Philosophy in 20th century, lecturer and examiner: prof. PhDr. Jan Zouhar, CSc. 2. Hermeneutics and Methodology of the Humanities, lecturer and examiner: prof. PhDr. Jaroslav Hroch, CSc. 3. Philosophy of Nature with Regard to Ecological Problems, lecturer and examiner: prof. PhDr. Ing. Josef Šmajs. 4. Philosophy of History, lecturer and examiner: doc. PhDr. Ivana Holzbachová, CSc. Students admitted to doctoral studies should select one of these four seminars on the registration day (or perhaps as soon as possible or after they have consulted their supervisor). By the 30th October they should turn in the selected thematic range for the philosophy exam. The Department of Philosophy and the individual lecturers will specify the schedule of seminars and consultations. Students are obliged to consult the lecturer either personally or at the lectures, to study the assigned literature and hand in a ten-page written essay. The topic of the essay is selected after consulting the supervisor in order to capture philosophical and methodological aspects of the theme of the doctoral dissertation. After accomplishing these requirements the student is allowed to sit a colloquium in the given subject that consists of a discussion on the problems of the written essay and used literature. On the basis of the supervisor's proposal and approval of the field board this requirement can be modified for students of doctoral program in philosophy.
