- Course objectives
- Many literary translation seminars look predominantly at classic texts works by well-known authors which have over years become part of the cultural tradition. In contrast, this course will work with very recent texts most of them published after 2000 by contemporary writers. A practical workshop in character, the seminar will focus on detailed work with the texts and their translations while providing necessary literary and historical context. In the course of the semester, we will also explore many resources available for the study (and enjoyment!) of contemporary fiction - web links, the archives of various literary prizes, etc. We will also have a brief look at current translation policy of the Czech publishing houses.
