Course objectives
Survey of painting and sculpture in Italy in the 15th century. The epoch is traditionally a paradigm of art historcial approaches, the lecture is held from the point of view of sociological and anthropological art historical methods.
Syllabus
  • 1. approaches to the Quatttrocento art 2. prehistory in the Trecento 3. change of paradigm in Florence around 1420 4. social stratigraphy - towns, republics, courts, the Pope 5. allantiqua 6. neti - modernists, religious question 7. court art 8. novoplatonism, humanism 9. centre and periphery 10. Leonardo and Michelangelo 11. Donatello and Michelangelo 12. spread of the Renaissance outside Italy
