Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand the structure of geology and its subject of study; to learn the position of Earth in the Universe, its properties and its inner structure; to understand the principles of geological processes and principles of evolution of continental and oceanic crust; to analyze the main stages of the Earth evolution together with the evolution of life on it; to explain synoptically the geology of the Czech Republic (including the reading of the geological map).
Syllabus
  • Geology - definition, subject of study
  • Position of Earth in the Universe
  • Physical and chemical properties of the Earth. Structure of Earth - crust, mantle, nucleus. Lithosphere, astenosphere.
  • Endogenetic processes (magmatism, metamorphism, tectonics, earthquake), evolution of the continental and oceanic crust.
  • Exogenetic geological processes (weathering, activity of water, wind, frost and organisms)
  • The overview of the Earth history (Precambrian - Cenozoic)
