Course objectives
The course will consider most of the major novels by Virginia Woolf, with a pedagogical emphasis on the vitalist elements in Woolf's approach and their possible significance.The predominantly literary content of the course will be supplemented by a film element looking at aspects of 'woman' constituted in the male gaze; this will principally include a concurrent showing and discussion of 'Vertigo' and 'Girl with a Pearl Earring'

Assessment methods
Assessment will be by essay (5-8 pages; to be submitted according to the exam date (50%),1 response paper of 500-800 words(20%; to be submitted before the end of the TEACHING semester), and oral assessment (30%). Those taking the course for credit only need to meet one of the written requirements.Teaching will take the form of class discussion.
