Course objectives
The course provides a short survey of basic phenomena of Modern Greek phonology, morphology and syntax and introduces the basic lexicon of Modern Greek language within the scope of lessons 11 to 16 of the textbook of Epikinoniste ellinika. At the end of the course, students will be familiar with basic linguistic terminology concerning Modern Greek and they will be capable of explaining the grammatical phenomena which are dealt with and of understanding simple texts focused on given topics.
Syllabus
  • Lessons 11 to 16 of the textbook of Epikinoniste ellinika I. Revision of lessons 1 - 10
  • Lessons 11, 12: adverbs of place; ordinal numbers, general revision
  • Lesson 13: shopping, food; nouns and adjectives – nominative and accusative plural, adverbs of how much/many, little/few, a lot
  • Lesson 14: shopping, clothes; adjectives – nationalities, colours, relative pronouns
  • Lesson 15: travelling; past and future tense perfective
  • Lesson 16: restaurant; past and future tense perfective

Assessment methods
The course has a form of a seminar. Homework is required during semester – students prepare assigned grammatical exercises and short translations from Modern Greek into Czech and vice versa. The course ends with a written test.
