Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to acquaint students of literary fields with the best examples of Russian short stories of the 19th and 20th century; to acquire the information about writers' lives, works and about the literary process of the respective period; to identify the cross impact of Russian literature and World literature and vice-versa; an analysis of selected works of Russian authors including: the comprehensive analysis; the preparation of reasons for the interpretation; and an attempt to compare selected author's works
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the Russian short story tradition. Literary analysis of separate stories by Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov, Nikolai Gogol, Ivan Turgenyev, Nikolai Leskov, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Maxim Gorky, Ivan Bunin, Leonid Andreyev etc.
