Course objectives
The seminar wants to give to the students of the art history a basic introduction into the problem of iconographical and iconological explanations in the visual arts. During its passing out, it is wanted an ability of the students to read art historical and theoretical writings critically and to extend their undestanding of the meaning in the art.

Primavera – a political message? (Horst Bredekamp). Sandro Botticelli, Primavera and neoplatonism (Ernst H. Gombrich) & 3. Sandro Botticelli, Birth of Venus. The wedding "camera". Italian cassoni and Botticellis Mars an Venus. & 4. Michelangelos Family. Raffaelos Madonna della Sedia. Deschi da parte and Botticelli. & 5. Santa Maria Novella and Warburgs Nympha. Assessment methods
The course will be taught as a seminar with a short lecture of clarification of basic themes; the most importance aim of this seminar will be the acquaintence of students with iconographical and iconological literature. There will be no exam for this course, but only a colloquium by class participation and the verbal presentation of subject.
