Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: reading and analysis of the Latin texts related to aesthetics (Horatius - De arte poetica, Cicero - De officiis, the bucolic poetry - Theokritos, Vergilius etc.).
Syllabus
  • Introduction - Latin authors, books etc.
  • Cicero - De officiis (the theory of virtues - iustitia, fortitudo, sapientia, temperantia).
  • Horatius - De arte poetica (theory of dramatic and poetic art).
  • Bucolic poetry - Theokritos, Vergilius etc. (their influence on medieval literature).
