- Course objectives
- The course looks into the most distinct theories and schools in ethnology and cultural anthropology (mythological school, evolutionism, diffusionism, psychological school, sociological school, functionalism, structuralism, etc.). Students are also informed about the latest phases of interest in the “strange” and “different” traceable in antiquity. Encountering other cultures, namely in the propagation of Christianity and Islam and later in relation to the discovery of America in the 15th century, offered the European civilisation new views. On these foundations scientific knowledge of philosophy and anthropology began to develop which resulted in the formulation of cultural anthropology and ethnology at the turn of the 20th century.
