Course objectives
The aim of the course is threefold: (1) Methods and objectives of research in Japanese language studies and Japanese studies (19th and 20th century). (2) Czech “japoneries” from late 19th century onwards. Japanese language studies in the Czech Republic from 1940s onwards. (3) Incorporation of Japanese and non-Japanese studies about “Japanese matters”- a contemporary perspective. (4) Other culture- a historical perspective onto the “other” of Japanese culture.
