Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand the roman narrative art, to analyse the aims of the roman propaganda in the monumental art to analyse an to understand the monuments and theirs decorative programmes
Syllabus
  • The monuments: triumphal arches of the augustan period - Susa, Forum Romanum, Ara Pacis Augustae and her ideology and iconography, Ara Pietatis, Cancelleria reliefs - interpretation and datation, Arch of Titus, Trajan's column and her analysis, Hadrian's reliefs of the Arch of Constantine - new interpretation, reliefs of the monument of Marc Aurel on the Arch of Constantine, Ara of Ephesos, Column of Marc Aurel, triumphal arches of Septimius Severus, Galerius Arch in Thessaloniki, late reliefs of the Arch of Constantine, triumphal monuments of Constantinopolis
