Course objectives
Two semesters course is focused on the question of paleoslavonic origin of Slovak at various contemporary theoretical presentments, phonetics and formative development since 19th century, development changes at syntax and lexis, Slovak dialects as result of development differentiation and at the same time source of recognizing of language system. The development process is documented on the texts of various types, toponymy as sphere of petrified denomination, written historical records. Specific attention is paid to the role of Czech as written language in Slovakia in pre-literary period, to various periods of its acceptation and slovakization.

  • 2. Great Moravian period and split–up of Great Moravian traditions
  • 3. Pre–literary period - slovakizated Czech and cultural pre–literary units
  • 4. Literary period – its parts, signs and personalities (Bernolák, Štúr and so on)
  • 5. Centers of codification and care of language culture at elder literary period
  • 6. Contemporary tendence of codification of literary language
  • 7. Basic notions of literary language theory
  • 8. Criteria of literary language
  • 9. Descriptive and prescriptive linguistics
