Course objectives
Lectures are oriented to the visual art in Europe and North America in the modern times. The main objectives of the course are the following: acquainting students with the basic terms and categories of history of art, as well as with methodology of work of the art historian. An essay has to be written, interpreting a selected oeuvre or set of works. There is also an excursion around art and architecture of Brno.
Syllabus
  • Subject and methods of history of art.
  • Canon of beauty and aesthetic geometry.
  • Iconoclasm and iconoduly, religion and art.
  • Basic terminology: architecture, sculpture, painting.
  • Periodization of art and its interpretation on selected examples.
