Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: the parts of the ancient Greek literature, that are newly being explored and that could not be explained in the courses History of the Classical Literature I, II due to the shortage of time.
At the end of this course, students should have a thorough knowledge of the selected topics of the Greek literature.

  • 1.-3. Homeric hymns and their interpretation in the light of new papyrological discoveries
  • 4.-5. Antigona of Sophocles
  • 6.-7. Filoctetes of Sophocles
  • 8.-9. Alcestis of Euripides
  • 10.-11. Ion of Euripides
  • 12.-13. Euripides` influence on the New Comedy and the ancient novel
