- Course objectives
- The dependecy grammar describes the relations in the sentence as a set of elements most of which are dependent on the verb. The verb takes thus the central position in the structural hierarchy of the sentence and provides - according to its meaning - the positions for other dependent elements (valency). The students should be able to recognize and describe the sentence structure using these methods.
- Syllabus
- Lectures on dependency grammar: Main new syntactic theories and their influence on the description of the German language structure (L. Tesnière, J. Fourquet, G. Helbig, W. Flämig, U. Engel, H.-W. Eroms, Duden-Grammatik); valency as a method of sentence description; pragmatical aspects; sentence analysis.
