Course objectives
The subject of the lessons is based on basic theoretical questions of the discipline of vocabulary of contemporary Russian in comparing the Russian-Czech plan. The learners will get a complete structured idea of lexical system of Russian, significant word structure, paradigm significant relations, levels in vocabulary of contemporary Russian, Russian phraseology, idiomatic, Russian lexicography and word formation. In the seminars, conceived as lexicological exercises, the learners will learn how to use theoretical knowledge they gained on a concrete lingual material.
Syllabus
  • 1. Lexicology as a science. Subject and basic terms of lexicology. Partial lexicological discipline. Word as a basic lexicological unit.
  • 2. Lexical system, types of lexical relations. Lexical word meaning.
  • 3. Polysemy (metaphor, metonymy, synecdoche)
  • 4. Homonymy and relative phenomena, paronymy.
  • 5. Synonymy and relative phenomena (periphrases, euphemism, lingual taboos)
  • 6. Antonymy.
  • 7. Onomastic, proper nouns.
  • 8. Phraseology, classification of phraseologism.
  • 9. Lexicography, types of dictionaries.
  • 10. Russian vocabulary in light of origin (vernaculars and loanwords)
  • 11. Russian vocabulary in light of use (active and passive vocabulary: archaisms, historisms, neologisms)
  • 12. Russian vocabulary in light of stylistics (functional, emotional and expressive aspect; territorial and social dialects).
  • 13. Word formation. Forming words in Russian.
