- Course objectives
- Lecture brings a picture of the first Serbian modernism, incoming at the break of 19th and 20th centuries, being a source of Serbian expressionism and surrealism after the World War I. In prose reflects the end of 19th century in the form of Serbian critical realism and is focused to the drama, as well, especially as of the most considerable contemporary Yugoslavian dramatic and comedy writer Branislav Nušić. Furthermore, the lecture catches modernistic prosaic trends after the World War I (especially Miloš Crnjanski). In details we analyze the work of Ivo Andrić. Presentation of a strong realistic stream of prosaic literature is a part of the course. Special chapter of Serbian literature evolution is the production arisen in period of national revolt during the World War II, which however, was printed out only after 1945. After absolving the course, student would be capable to analyze and interpret complicated modernistic poetical evolution of the Serbian literature of the first half of 20th century and is capable to introduce basic works of prosaic literature, especially written by Ivo Andrić and Miloš Crnjanski.
