Course objectives
Our goal is to inform students of music dramaturgy as an integral part of dramaturgy of audio-visual production. The intention is to stimulate perception of music-pictorial connections as the form-creating elements of a film work. The emphasis will be put on revealing the hierarchical relations, and interconnection between the expressing means of music and picture in succession of audience’s perception. The unique systematics of relations of music and picture also includes an excursion into the history of music and points out to expression and symbolism of particular historical and genre types of music. Lectures will be accompanied by an analysis of music dramaturgy of the specific films.
After having attended the lectures a student will be able to define levels of music-pictorial connections and to interpret them within the arbitrary film works. Students will acquire knowledge necessary for the evaluation of artistic quality of music dramaturgy.
