Course objectives
Main objectives of the course is 1. to enlarge the knowledge of students about Iron Age period, gained in the basic courses and 2. to present to them some phenomenons, which characterize the changes in protohistoric society in last seven centuries BC.

  • 1. Hallstatt, salt mining and contacts in Hallstatt-period
  • 2. Dürrnberg bei Hallein, salt mining and contacts in La Tène-period
  • 3. Elites of Hallstatt period: rich burials (Hochdorf a. o. )
  • 4. Elites of Hallstatt period: chieftainly hillforts/Fürstensitze (casestudy: Heuneburg)
  • 5. the end of Hallstatt-culture, the beginning of La Tène (Vix)
  • 6. western Early La Tène elites
  • 7. Hunsrück-Eifel culture and Etruscan imports
  • 8. Glauberg
  • 9. eastern Early La Tène
  • 10. the emergence of power-centers in 5th century BC
