Course objectives
When graduating from the cycle of lectures the students will be able to describe the history of the Czech rural historiography. They will be able to distinguish individual methodological approaches to the rural history and will be able to take a critical view.
Syllabus
  • The cycle of lectures will focus on the key historiographical discussions connected with the research into the Czech country. Historians and their work constructing the image of the Czech rural life will play the main role.
  • Beginnings of historiographical interest in the country
  • Discussion on “nedíl” (Kadlec, Peisker, Pekař)
  • Josef Kalousek and interest in legal history of the country
  • Josef Pekař and interest in the economic history of the country
  • Lubor Niederle
  • First magazines dedicated to rural history: “Selský archiv” and “Agrární archiv” (Prasek, Kazimour, Černý)
  • Kamil Krofta and "Dějiny selského lidu"
  • František Kutnar and functional structuralism
  • František Graus, Marxist historiography and rural history
  • Research of estate in connection to rural history (Matějek, Míka, Válka, Petráň)
  • Historical demography (Maur, Horská, Horský)
  • Historical semantics (Macek)
