- The objective of the course consists in providing the basic knowledge of reading and writing Japanese.

- Course objectives
- The course starts with the introduction of hiragana and katakana, approximately 200 of the most elementary Japanese character kanji will also be introduced during the semester. Students will be able to read and write Japanese on simple everyday topics at the end of the course. Regular class attendance is complulsory.

- Teaching methods
- Introduction to the Japanese writing system, kana and kanji writing drills focused on the correctness of writing.
- Assessment methods
- Drills. Revision tests will be written on weekly basis, the overall percentage of which has to exceed 70 per cent to be admitted to the final test.
