Course objectives
At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand the developments of the Polish music since 1900 in the broader context of the aesthetics and nationalism in Central Europe. He will be able to interpret the main trends of the Polish music in the historical context.

  • Karol Szymanowski and his legacy.
  • The Second World War and the post-war reconstruction.
  • Socialist realism.
  • The 'Warsaw Autumn' and the avant-garde.
  • The 'Polish School', sonorism, electronic music.
  • Witold Lutosławski.
  • Minimalism and sound unism.
  • Patriotism and sacral inspirations.
  • The 'Stalowa Wola' generation, the 1980s and 90s.
