Course objectives
At the end of the course students will be able to describe the systém of modern Japanese language; explain basic linguistic phenomenons on the samples of Japanese; apply their previous language skills as well as the knowledge of general linguistics to a metalinguistic analysis of the modern Japanese language; characterise the Japanese language from a typological point of view; formulate simple definitions of basic grammatical categories; judge the relevance of various linguistic theories for the need of describing a linguistic reality.

    2. Phonetic inventory of modern Japanese
    3. Phonology of the Japanese language (rendaku)
    4. Notions of word in theories of the Japanese language (shi vs. ji)
    5. Lexicon of Japanese
    6. Foreign and loan words in Japanese
    7. Grammatical categories within the inventory of predicatives (yōgen, katsyō)
    8. Characteristics of functional units
    9. Proposition and predication (charakteristics of adverbs)
    10. Introduction to pragmatics
    11. Synchronic and diachronic view of taigū hyōgen
