Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: explain literary texts of the Baroque period in the international Europian context; work with information on the texts of the Baroque literature mostly written in Czech, Polish and German; interpret one text by Comenius in Polish and German translation, more chosen poetry on th basis of the book by V. Černý (1967);

  • 1. Introduction. Methods of comparatistic. 2. Černý´s concept of two esthetical and rhetorical Baroque categories. 3. Spanish Baroque - Teresa de Avila; Juan de la Cruz. 4. Italian Baroque - Torquato Tasso. 5. English Baroque - John Donne; John Milton. 6. German Baroque - Andreas Gryphius; Friedrich von Spee; Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen. 7. Croatian Baroque - Ivan Dživo Gundulić; Ivan Mažuranič. 8. Polish Baroque - Jan Andrzej Morstyn. 9. Russian and Ukrainian Baroque - Simeon Polockij; Hryhorij Skovoroda. 10. Coemnius and his Baroque translation one text by J. Kochanowski. 11. Conclusion - relationship among texts,comparison.
