Course objectives
In terms of morphology and syntax, the focus of the fifth semester will be: derived verb stems and some basic syntactic structures important for reading Arabic texts and for listening comprehension of literary Arabic (particularly basic types of subordinate clauses). Students will be introduced to issues of literary language used in mass media, both in written form (newspapers, magazines, Internet), and in spoken form (TV, radio broadcasts). Emphasis will be placed on the development of speech skills. Presumably also basics of specialized terminology III.

Teaching methods
Reading and listening comprehension (filling gap, short answer questions, multiple choice), translation, topical conversation, conversation based on recently discussed grammar rules.
Assessment methods
Written test atthe end ofthe term: grammar(gap filling, multiplechoice, matching), readingcomprehension (shortanswerquestions), listeningcomprehension (gap filling). Classattendanceis not requiredduringthe term but thestudents are stronglyrecommended to do so. Passmark – 60%.
