Course objectives
The aim of the course is to apply the students` skills gained during their work with the Czech National Corpus to their teaching practice – in teaching the Czech language at upper secondary schools. Stress is laid on the skill to form queries in the CNC which would be useful in lessons of orthography, morphology, lexicology and word building or syntax. At the end of the course, students will be able to propose on their own a set of exercises based on the work with various CNC corpora.
Syllabus
  • 1. The position of the Czech language education in the Framework Educational Programme for Upper Secondary Schools, analysis of textbooks of the Czech language for upper secondary schools, mainly for grammar schools.
  • 2. Possibilities of use of the CNC corpora in teaching the Czech language – inductive and deductive teaching methods.
  • 3. Observation of corpus data and their comparison with handbooks of orthography and grammar of current Czech language.
  • 4. Frequency of linguistic data and their use in teaching the Czech language.
  • 5. Teaching about variant forms, mainly from the fields of orthography and morphology.
  • 6. Typology of exercises, creating of exercises and other activities for teaching the Czech language.
  • 7. Individual formation of exercises and presenting them.

Assessment methods
The subject is ended by a credit, homework is required in the course of the term. To get a credit each student has to elaborate a written seminar work.
