Course objectives
At the end of this course the students will have general knowledge about Estonia. This includes historical and political features as well as social and cultural aspects. Students will be able to understand the current events taking place in Estonia through its historical and cultural background.

  • GEOGRAPHY: location, neighbours, regions
  • NATURE: climate, flora and fauna
  • DEMOGRAPHY: population, other nations, people living in cities and in the countryside
  • NATIONAL SYMBOLS
  • MAJOR HISTORICAL EVENTS: gaining independence, regaining independence
  • POLITICS: political system, politicians, current political situation, European Union, NATO
  • LANGUAGE: history, development, status, dialects, technology
  • LITERATURE, ART, CINEMATOGRAPHY and MUSIC
  • FOLKLORE: traditions, calendar
  • SOCIETY: culture, education, science
