Course objectives
Programme of modern Czech theatre, personalities of Czech theatre direction, periods of impressionism, symbolism, expressionism, civilism, dada, poetism and surrealism, analysis pivotal staging, dramatic production, metamorphoses of dramatic art, criticism.
Syllabus
  • 1. Organisation, introduction. 2. Influences and contexts of modern czech theatre. 3.-6. Evolutional contexts of as called czech moderna and its bequest to avant-garde. Karel Hugo Hilar and Národní divadlo (National Theatre in Prague) in 1918-1935. Jaroslav Kvapil in Municipal Theatre in Prague. 7.-8. Metamorphoses of profesional and private theatres from 1918 to 1935. 9.-12. Metamorphoses of avant-gardistic style (from proletarian theatre groups to private theatres, influence of avant-gardists on frontal czech stages´ style). 13. Theatrical education, theatre and criticism. Puppet theatre.
