Course objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to apply theories learned in subjects Social Psychology I and II. They will have broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of interpersonal processes and behaviour. In seminars students show productive use of discussed topics in oral presentations. They will develop some practical skills how to work with a group.
Syllabus
  • Applied Social Psychology connects with the courses Social Psychology I and II.
  • The leading structure of the course integrates macrosocial and microsocial perspectives in the area of social psychology applied to many different domains of human life.
  • 1. Introduction to Applied Social Psychology.
  • 2. Social Aspects in Cultural History of the Man.
  • 3. Massmedial Communication.
  • 4. Aggression – forms, theories, causes, consequences, control. Chicane, mobbing, home violence.
  • 5. Afiliation, social support. Interpersonal attraction, theories of human relations. Love and intimacy (Sternberg, Rusbult). Prosocial behaviour.
  • 6. Subjective well-being.
  • 7. Social Skills Training. Problem Solving in Groups.

Teaching methods
Classwork alternates two-hour lectures one week and two-hour seminars in split groups the second week. In seminars students prepare oral presentations.
Assessment methods
The course is closed by an oral examination examination aimed at testing the student’s insight into the main theories, concepts and methodologies of the discipline. Admission conditions: 80% participations in seminars, group projects and oral presentation.
