Course objectives
The course is a workshop of practical translation from Latin, where various medieval Latin texts concerning religion are read, translated and commented upon.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • translate very well Latin texts addressed by the seminars;
  • translate relatively well an unknown Latin text on religion
  • look up or guess specific religious background information necessary for translation of Latin texts on religion

    Teaching methods
    Workshop of practical translation with commentary (grammar, vocabulary, background information).

  • Attendance with home preparation (max. two missed classes – prerequisite of the colloquium).
  • Written colloquium: practical translation of a known and unknown passage from a Latin text (use of dictionaries and grammars is allowed).
