Course objectives
The aim of conversation is improving and enriching vocabulary of basic conversational topics and coordination writing and speaking (level B2 for the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and preparing for qualifying exam.
Syllabus
  • Each class will have two parts: 1/ „not prepared conversation“– one student will prepare the topic for the conversation and he moderates the discussion with the whole group 2/ conversation on given topic (including vocabulary): social phrases – people (appearance and character) – family relations – human life – occupation – leisure time (sport, hobby, culture) – city (houses, shops, services, post-office, bank) – transport (bus service, railway, planes, ships) – food – health and illness – education – holiday. During the course students are supposed to write 12 essays (as homework) on topics given by the teacher (it is one of the exam requirements).

Teaching methods
6 hours per week in a course: Teacher-led conversations and work in groups, additional vocabulary exercises, textual interpretation (reading and listening).
Assessment methods
Final written test. Besides the test, the following rules must be observed: 1/ In order to successfully finish the course, student's participation in the course must be at least 75 %. If student's participation drops below 75 %, he will not be allowed to write the final test. 2/ The students fullfils all tasks given by the teacher (homeworks, presentations etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence. 3/ Students must not switch study groups, unless the Head of Department of Czech for Foreigners explicitly approved it.
